AS&G is excited to welcome a skilled Heavy-Duty Mechanic to our dynamic Anchorage Shop team! If you thrive in a hands-on, fast-paced environment and enjoy working side by side with a strong crew, this is the place for you.
You’ll help keep our operation moving by maintaining and repairing a wide range of heavy equipment and company trucks including our hard-working cement mixer (ready-mix) fleet. From inspections and diagnostics to repairs and preventative maintenance, you’ll play a key role both in the Shop and out in the field.
This is a full‑time, year‑round position with opportunities for overtime work as production requires.
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair heavy equipment including loaders, haul trucks, dozers, excavators, and support machinery.
- Perform maintenance and repairs on cement mixer trucks, including drums, chutes, hydraulic systems, gearboxes, and mixer controls.
- Maintain and repair trucks: engines, transmissions, suspensions, brakes, electrical, emissions, and hydraulic systems.
- Perform DOT-compliant inspections and preventative maintenance.
- Utilize diagnostic equipment, shop tools, welding equipment, and lifting devices safely and effectively.
- Troubleshoot breakdowns and conduct field repairs to minimize equipment downtime.
- Accurately document all work performed, parts used, and labor hours.
- Work closely with operators, dispatch, and production teams to maintain equipment reliability.
- Follow all AS&G, MSHA, OSHA, and DOT safety standards and best practices.
- Must join and maintain membership with Operating Engineers Local 302.
- Valid CDL (Class B or higher).
- Hazmat endorsement preferred (or willingness to obtain).
- 3+ years of diesel or heavy equipment mechanic experience.
- Strong working knowledge of truck and heavy equipment electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret service manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and work in varying conditions.
- Strong safety mindset.
- Provide own hand tools.
- Obtain a TWIC card and military base pass.
- MSHA certification (or willingness to complete upon hire).
- Experience with ready-mix cement trucks and aggregate/construction equipment.
- Welding, fabrication, and hydraulic troubleshooting experience.
- Familiarity with electronic diagnostics.
- Monday to Friday standard schedule with overtime as needed based on production.
